An apparition

 It’s paint, nothing but paint. Hanging. Radiating.

 Not matter applied to the canvas, as Ryman, who comes to mind. No: paint on a

ground which we only notice if we look closely at the edges of the canvas. A ground from which it arises without necessarily being bound directly.

 Not simple, the painting of David Lewis which seems so direct. One can say what it isn’t: in any case neither abstract nor monochrome, in spite of appearances.

 A process, that’s it, which speaks primarily about apparition
